Folder Reflection:
As an educator, I am always looking to improve my classroom. The improvement can only come from knowing my students. Creating a personal relationship with my students will prove to be effective when I do my lesson planning or create a manageable classroom. Every student is different and that is very important to keep in mind. Accommodations are often made in the classroom so that every student has an equal opportunity at learning. Each student comes from a different background, a different culture, and it is not in my interest to change their personal culture, but to bring all of the cultures together in a safe comfortable classroom. A story line that really opened my heart and eyes to teaching is the movie, "Freedom Writers." Although many doubted this woman as a teacher in an inner city school, she didn't doubt herself. She also had a hard time creating a welcoming classroom with participating students, but she believed in herself. Eventually she started to see progress in the students because she believed in them. This is the kind of role model I want to be for my students and I want them to know that I believe in each and every one of them. Phil Collins said it best, "In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn." I try to improve my learning in every way possible whether it be from collaboration with fellow teachers, talking to students or attending educational conferences. My desire to learn never stops and I am only open to hearing and understanding more and more things.
